Health Guarantee

We stand behind our puppies!

Health of your Puppy
While the puppies are in our care, we feed them well and give them the best care possible so each puppy will grow into strong and healthy pets for years to come.
Before going home with you, your puppy will have a physical exam and be cleared of all parasites by our veterinarian at Companion Animal Hospital. All puppies will have their 6-week vaccinations, and Microchip implanted.
The Puppy contract will require all new owners to also have your puppy examined by your own veterinarian, within 72 hours from the time of pick up, to have a full physical exam and fecal exam. This will help thoroughly establish that you have adopted a healthy puppy. Your puppy’s initial exam will help you establish a relationship with your new veterinarian as well as get your puppy started on preventive care products such as heartworm and flea/tick, Lyme disease, and any other preventative medications.  If your puppy is proven to be anything but healthy with in the first 72- hour veterinarian exam, we will be happy to take the puppy back and offer you a replacement puppy. We will make every effort to work towards a healthy and happy outcome for you and your new puppy. Shipping or Delivery Charges will not be refunded.

Breeder Commitment
CODE OF ETHICS & CONDUCT

Trupanion strives to work exclusively with responsible breeders, so we ask that all breeders in our Breeder Support Program commit to the following:

  1. Follow a healthy breeding plan. Work with your veterinarian to determine an appropriate breeding plan for your pet’s age and health, including breed-appropriate health screenings.
  2. Provide adequate food, water, and housing for all pets, including exercise, socialization, and grooming.
  3. All pets receive regular routine/preventive care, including vaccinations and parasite control, as well as any additional care needed. Provide all medical records to new owners.
  4. Fully disclose any illness or injury to the buyer prior to purchase. This includes clinical signs of an illness or injury and any exposure to potentially infectious diseases and/or parasites.
  5. Allow interested buyers access to your facility and to meet the pets and their parents
    (if onsite).
  6. Provide ongoing support to new owners. This includes rehoming or taking the pet back if the new family is no longer willing or able to care for them.
  7. All puppies/kittens are bred, owned and sold by you. The Go Home Day Offer is not available for pets sold through a pet store or broker.
  8. Puppies/kittens should remain in your care until they are an appropriate age to send to their new home. We understand that the age may vary based on breed, and trust you’ll follow best recommendations for your breed.
  9. Provide medical records to Trupanion upon request. We typically only request records to aid with claims processing.
  10. Comply with all applicable laws, including receiving and maintaining all appropriate local and federal licensing.
We take the utmost care when reviewing and selecting responsible breeders for our Breeder Support Program — which is why we fully investigate complaints against breeders in our program. In the event that a complaint is substantiated, or if our claims data reveals that a breeder is not following the above criteria or is sending home unhealthy pets, we reserve the right to terminate our relationship with the breeder in question.

What’s Not Covered
We cannot guarantee our puppies against illness or opportunistic parasites brought on by stress such as moving (from our house to yours) or shipping. We also can’t guarantee that our puppies will be “worm-free”, as this is an ongoing process. However, these are easily and economically treated and should be discussed with your veterinarian at your first visit.
We are not responsible if a puppy contracts a communicable disease or infection after leaving our possession. Also, this Health Guarantee does not include improper bites, hernias, cherry eye, or any illness due to the ingestion of foreign objects, food, chemicals or physical injury.

Spay and Neutering
Our contract requires you to have your puppy Spayed or Neutered between the ages of 6-10 months old. Verification of this must be mailed to us by the time your puppy is 10 months old.
